  • Data Center and Colocation

Aligned is a data center operator that builds and runs high-density colocation campuses cooled by its own patented Delta Cube system. It sells two things: space in its own multi-tenant campuses, and Build-to-Scale data centers designed and built to a customer's specification, in an existing or a new market. Its distinguishing claim is density in place. A footprint is delivered as an enclosed, hot-aisle-contained block, and rack loads inside it can rise to 50 kW without adding infrastructure, because the Delta Cube coil pulls heat off at the rack instead of conditioning the whole room. Aligned states a guaranteed power usage effectiveness of 1.15 and a 100 percent uptime commitment. The company now trades as Aligned Data Centers; the store lists it under its earlier name. For a buyer, Aligned is a landlord and a builder for dense, fast-growing compute.

Best for

  • Enterprises running AI, GPU or other high-density computing that draws far more power per rack than a standard colocation cabinet can cool.
  • Tenants whose load will grow in place and want to raise density and footprint where they sit rather than move again.
  • Companies that want a facility built to their own specification, in blocks of 2 to more than 20 megawatts, with more added in as little as 12 weeks.
  • Buyers who weigh water and power draw in a colocation decision, whether for cost or for sustainability reporting.
  • Companies that want Aligned's cooling inside their own building, since three of its five published stories are retrofits or new builds on the customer's site.

A small deployment of a few standard-density cabinets does not need what Aligned is built for, which is dense, fast-growing capacity.

What they offer

Colocation. Footprints sold by the block rather than by the rack, from a handful of racks to thousands, each an enclosed hot-aisle-contained space with variable density up to 50 kW per rack. A client portal, remote hands and optional office or storage space come with a footprint. Aligned Access is its interconnection service, linking a tenant to carriers, clouds and internet exchanges on and off campus. Build-to-Scale delivers a standard or custom data center to your specification, from a powered shell to a fully managed site, with initial deployments of 2 to more than 20 megawatts. Its 2019 material describes four US campuses: Phoenix at 550,000 square feet and 180 megawatts, Dallas-Plano at 375,000 square feet and 60 megawatts, Salt Lake City-West Jordan at 600,000 square feet, and Ashburn, Virginia at 777,775 square feet and 180 megawatts across two interconnected buildings on 26 acres, less than 800 feet from the MAE-East interconnection point. Its 2026 site lists North American locations from Abernathy and Hillsboro to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix and Salt Lake City, with Ohio, Maryland and Northern Virginia, plus a Latin America region.

Proof

These stories come from Aligned's own published case studies, told here without the customers' names.

A bank among the largest in the United States. It needed to consolidate infrastructure from three floors to one and raise density without disrupting live banking. Aligned retrofitted its cooling into the bank's own running data center in two phases. The case study reports density nearly tripled across a 32-rack footprint, from about 4 kW to 12 kW per rack, on a 2N design, with the systems commissioned in 14 weeks and no disruption, and annualized mechanical PUE falling from 1.92 to 1.09.

A multinational maker of PCs, servers and storage that had just acquired a large server business. It had less than six months to stand up research labs at two locations. Aligned installed its cooling in more than 15 labs across both sites in three months, with high-efficiency chillers and energy dashboards on a building management system, and reports a mechanical PUE of 1.04.

A Canadian telecommunications carrier serving wireless, wireline, internet and TV customers. For three new data centers of its own, it used Aligned's cooling technology and pods. The facilities measured water use at about a quarter of a traditional data center's, saving on the order of 17 million liters a year, hold Uptime Institute Tier III design certification and LEED Gold, and the pod installation ran 16 weeks from purchase order to commissioning.

Aligned's site sheets list SOC 1 and SOC 2 reports, PCI DSS, HIPAA, HITECH, NIST 800-53 and ISO 27001:2013, with an Uptime Institute Management and Operations stamp at Phoenix and Salt Lake City. It states its design uses up to 85 percent less water and draws up to 80 percent less power than a traditional data center. These figures are Aligned's own.

Good to know

  • Colocation is sold and priced by the footprint, not the rack. A standard portal and remote hands come with it, while a custom portal or monitoring beyond your footprint is an upgrade.
  • Three of the five published deployments are Aligned's cooling installed at the customer's own site, with no space in an Aligned campus involved. Ask which model a proposal describes.
  • The documents disagree with themselves. Salt Lake City is 600,000 square feet on a 2019 sheet and 780,000 square feet with a second building under construction on a 2020 one; Dallas is called Tier III certified on one sheet and Tier II on another. Ask for the current figures and certificates for the hall you would take.
  • Every document except one 2026 web page is from 2017 to 2020 and branded Aligned Energy; the 2026 page is branded Aligned Data Centers and its scale counters did not capture, so no current count is taken from it.
  • Figures and product names here are the company's own.

How buying works

The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.

Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.

  1. 01

    Build your quote list

Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.

  2. 02

    We bring back real options

A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.

  3. 03

We handle the order and install

Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.

  4. 04

    We stay on your account

Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
