CBTS is a managed services provider and systems integrator that designs, installs and runs technology for enterprises and mid-sized businesses. It works in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and India.

It is a company of partnerships. CBTS holds senior partner status with Cisco, Microsoft, Palo Alto Networks and VMware, and most of what it sells is one of their products wrapped in CBTS design, installation and day-to-day management. Its managed services group counts nearly 3,000 customer accounts and 100,000 devices under management. A buyer chooses CBTS when the question is who will run it, more than which product to buy.

Best for

  • Organizations with many sites and a patchwork of old phone systems that want one provider to consolidate them.
  • Healthcare groups and other regulated businesses that need phone and network services aligned to HIPAA and PCI.
  • Companies that want to move network and voice spending from equipment purchases to a monthly service.
  • Retailers that need security or network equipment rolled out to hundreds of stores on a schedule.
  • Businesses standardized on Microsoft that want licensing, consulting and management from one company.
  • IT leaders who want cloud, network, security and workplace services from one provider under service levels.

What they offer

Cloud Phone Systems and Voice Lines and SIP Trunking. Webex Calling and Microsoft Teams Voice, the second delivered through Microsoft's Operator Connect program. VoIP trunking with geographic redundancy and room to burst 20 percent above committed capacity.

Contact Center. Cisco's Webex Contact Center, deployed and run by CBTS, licensed by concurrent or named agent.

SD-WAN and SASE. Managed SD-WAN on VMware VeloCloud, and Palo Alto Networks' Prisma SD-WAN and SASE.

Managed Security. A managed security operations center staffed around the clock, Palo Alto's Cortex XDR run by CBTS, and patch management as a continuing service.

Backup and Disaster Recovery. Managed backup for Microsoft 365 built on Commvault, and managed disaster recovery into a CBTS facility, a colocation site or a public cloud.

Cloud and IaaS, Managed IT and Microsoft and Google Workspace. CBTS's own public and private cloud, management of AWS and Azure, a broad managed IT portfolio, and Microsoft licensing with services as a Cloud Solution Provider.

The catalog also lists CBTS under AI and Automation, Hosted Fax and Business Connectivity. The documents mention these only as features inside other services.

Proof

  • Cisco Gold Integrator and Provider, a Cisco partner for more than 27 years.
  • Microsoft Solutions Partner for Modern Work and an Operator Connect partner.
  • A Palo Alto Networks Diamond Innovator and managed security services provider.
  • VMware SD-WAN deployments in more than 50 countries.

Its anonymized customer stories date from 2019.

A community health system with four hospitals and about 13,000 phones. Growth by acquisition had left its staff running ten separate phone networks. CBTS moved it to one hosted voice platform paid for as a service.

A Fortune 1000 specialty retailer with more than 630 stores. CBTS rolled out a firewall service to every location, handling ordering, configuration, shipping and installation.

These statements and accounts are CBTS's own.

Good to know

  • You are usually buying another maker's product through CBTS. Ask which vendor sits under each service and what happens if you later want to change it.
  • One networking sheet in its collateral carries the OnX name instead of CBTS. The documents do not explain the relationship.
  • The managed Microsoft 365 backup gives your administrators a self-service portal, and CBTS trains them to run restores.
  • Extended threat hunting is an optional extra on the managed detection service.

How buying works

The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.

Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.

  1. 01

    Build your quote list

Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.

  2. 02

    We bring back real options

A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.

  3. 03

We handle the order and install

Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.

  4. 04

    We stay on your account

Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
