CloudFirst Global (FKA Performive)

Available through IT Raven

  • Cloud and Infrastructure

CloudFirst Global, formerly Performive, is a managed cloud hosting company with a specialty: IBM Power systems. It hosts and runs IBM i and AIX workloads alongside the Windows and Linux servers every host supports.

That matters if your core business software runs on IBM midrange machines. CloudFirst will host those systems, back them up, replicate them for disaster recovery and secure them, from ten data centers in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Best for

  • Companies running business software on IBM i or AIX that want to stop owning the hardware.
  • Organizations moving aging on-premise systems into hosting without rewriting the applications.
  • IBM i shops whose security settings have not been reviewed in years.
  • Hybrid and remote workforces that need managed virtual desktops.
  • Healthcare, financial and public sector organizations that need hosting aligned to their compliance rules.
  • Businesses replacing tape backup with an offsite copy that cannot be altered.

What they offer

Cloud and IaaS. Managed cloud hosting for IBM i, AIX, Windows and Linux, with private connections out to IBM Cloud, AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. Around the hosting sit backup as a service, disaster recovery as a service, high availability through real-time replication, a tiered security service built for IBM i, and systems management that keeps operating systems patched on a monthly cycle.

Desktop as a Service. Managed virtual desktops on Windows or Linux, hosted in its private cloud and run around the clock by engineers based in the United States. It supports desktops that keep a user's changes and desktops that reset at each login.

Proof

  • CloudFirst states a 100 percent uptime service level for managed cloud hosting.
  • Its disaster recovery sheet gives targets of 24 hours or less of data loss and about 8 hours to recover, under good conditions.
  • Its systems management sheet targets a 15 minute response and a 2 hour resolution on critical issues.
  • It lists compliance with PCI, HIPAA, SOX and GDPR for its hosting, and ISO 27001.

Its customer stories withhold the names.

A telecom analytics company hit by ransomware over a holiday weekend. CloudFirst had a bridge environment running in under 8 hours after the first conversation.

A municipal water utility with no formal data protection. CloudFirst supplied an appliance on the utility's premises plus cloud disaster recovery with backups that cannot be altered.

A casino resort bound by tribal regulations on where its data may sit. CloudFirst built a backup system hosted on the resort's own site, with a replica ready for fast recovery.

These figures and accounts are CloudFirst's own.

Good to know

  • The ten data centers belong to partners CloudFirst selected. It says it can arrange a tour of any of them, so ask which facility you would be in.
  • The recovery targets are stated for favorable conditions. Get the numbers for your own systems in writing.
  • The 100 percent uptime figure is a service level with credits behind it. It is a promise about remedies and says nothing certain about outages, so read the terms.
  • Onboarding for IBM systems starts with a structured discovery of what you run. Projects are described in four phases that together span roughly two to five months.

How buying works

The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.

Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.

  1. 01

    Build your quote list

Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.

  2. 02

    We bring back real options

A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.

  3. 03

We handle the order and install

Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.

  4. 04

    We stay on your account

Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
