Iron Mountain Data Centers is the colocation business of Iron Mountain, the records storage company founded in 1951. It rents space, power and connections in data centers it owns across North America, Europe and Asia.
Its one-page overview counts more than 25 locations in seven countries on three continents. The buildings are neutral, meaning you choose your own carriers and clouds inside them. Two are unusual: the Pennsylvania site sits 220 feet underground in a former limestone mine, and the Kansas City site is underground too. Both are marketed for disaster recovery and long-term storage.
Best for
- Large enterprises placing a major deployment, and smaller local companies that need only a few cabinets. Its site sheets address both.
- Government and federal users. Its United States sites list federal security frameworks among their attestations.
- Companies that want an underground site for disaster recovery.
- Buyers with AI and high-performance computing workloads that need dense power and cooling.
- Organizations that report on carbon and want renewable power they can count toward their own figures.
- Networks, carriers and internet providers that want to exchange traffic directly with other tenants.
- Data center operators refreshing hardware who need certified erasure and disposal.
What they offer
Colocation. From a few shared cabinets to a complete facility built for one customer. Around the space it sells the connections:
- Cross connects to carriers, clouds and other tenants inside its meet-me rooms.
- Cloud on-ramps, including partner ports for Microsoft ExpressRoute and AWS Direct Connect.
- Metro Wave, dedicated optical circuits of 10 or 100 gigabits per second between its facility and another site, on a single path or a protected pair.
- Peering at the internet exchanges hosted in its buildings, and blended internet transit on one invoice.
- Smart Hands and migration, on-site technical help and equipment moves.
It also offers asset lifecycle management, which erases, destroys, resells or recycles retired hardware.

Proof
- Iron Mountain says it is the only data center provider that complies worldwide with four ISO standards at once: 27001 for security, 50001 for energy, 14001 for environment and 9001 for quality.
- Its Phoenix site sheet lists NIST 800-53, FISMA High, FedRAMP, SOC 2 Type II, SOC 3, PCI DSS and HIPAA.
- Its sustainability ebook says that in 2022 it became the first data center provider in North America to earn BREEAM design certification, at its second Phoenix facility.
- A program it calls Green Power Pass lets customers count their share of its low-carbon electricity in their own emissions reporting.
These are Iron Mountain's own statements. No customer story was available for this page.
Good to know
- Attestations differ by country. The Amsterdam sheet lists ISO and SOC reports and none of the United States federal frameworks. Check the sheet for the building you would use.
- Several expansions in the documents carry future dates: Chicago opening power from October 2025 and growing through 2028, Miami reaching full build in 2026. Confirm what is live today.
- The five sites in India are labeled as Web Werks facilities, a joint venture, and differ from the sites Iron Mountain owns outright.
- Its own sheets disagree on a headline figure. Some say 95 percent of the Fortune 1000 trust Iron Mountain and others say 90 percent. Both figures describe the parent company.

How buying works
The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.
Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.
- 01
Build your quote list
Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.
- 02
We bring back real options
A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.
- 03
We handle the order and install
Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.
- 04
We stay on your account
Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
