ark is an enterprise data center operator, formerly Involta, that runs colocation and cloud in secondary and edge markets across the US. Its focus is deliberate: it builds enterprise data centers in secondary markets rather than the largest metros, positioning itself close to where data is created, with deployments it describes as ranging from 500 kilowatts to 5 megawatts. Around the colocation it adds cloud compute, network and managed security, so a customer can run a hybrid setup from one provider. Compliance is a stated strength, with facilities built to meet stringent requirements. ark operates data centers in cities including Cedar Rapids, Cleveland, Boise, Tucson, Duluth and Green Bay. For a buyer, ark is a compliance-focused data center partner in markets the big providers often skip.
Best for
- Companies that want a data center outside the largest metros, closer to their operations or users in a secondary market.
- Organizations with strict compliance needs, such as defense contractors under CMMC or ITAR, that need the facility itself to carry audited controls.
- Businesses running a hybrid setup that want colocation, cloud and managed security from one provider.
- Companies that need a second site for geographic redundancy and disaster recovery.
A company that only needs presence in a major coastal hub, or only raw cloud with no hardware, is a different buyer than ark's edge-market, colocation-led model targets.
What they offer
Colocation. Enterprise data center space in secondary and edge markets, with deployments stated from 500 kW to 5 MW, built to meet stringent compliance requirements. Named locations include Cedar Rapids, Cleveland, Boise, Tucson, Duluth and Green Bay.
Cloud and IaaS. Cloud compute in combined, dedicated private and multi-tenant forms, so workloads can run in ark's cloud alongside colocated hardware in a hybrid design.
Managed Security. ark-XDR, a managed detection and response service that monitors and responds to threats across the environment.
Business Connectivity. Network services connecting the data centers and reaching cloud and carrier destinations.

Proof
This story comes from ark's own published, anonymized case study.
A large aerospace and defense contractor. Facing tightening federal rules, including the Department of Defense's CMMC and ITAR controls on its data, it needed a data center partner whose facilities could carry the required compliance for its mission-critical and controlled systems. It migrated workloads into two ark data centers, one for mission-critical systems and one for geographic redundancy. The case study reports ark executed the migration ahead of an approaching audit and helped the contractor meet its compliance obligations.
Good to know
- ark was formerly known as Involta, so a buyer may recognize it under that older name.
- Its strategy is secondary and edge markets. Confirm it has a facility where you need one, since its footprint is deliberately outside the largest metros.

How buying works
The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.
Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.
- 01
Build your quote list
Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.
- 02
We bring back real options
A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.
- 03
We handle the order and install
Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.
- 04
We stay on your account
Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
