EXA Infrastructure operates a long-haul fiber network connecting Europe and North America, including subsea cables and data centers it owns. It is a wholesale infrastructure provider, meaning it sells the underlying network, dark fiber, wavelengths, Ethernet and internet transit, rather than services aimed at an end office. Its footprint is its defining fact: it states a network of about 103,000 route kilometers of fiber reaching 300 cities, with dense metropolitan coverage joined by inter-city routes and its own transatlantic subsea cables. The company is carrier-neutral, so it is one of the networks other carriers and large customers build on. EXA was formed in 2021 when the European, subsea and North American network and data center assets of GTT Communications were carved out and acquired by an infrastructure investor.
