Keeper Security

Keeper Security makes software that locks down passwords, secrets and privileged access, so that one stolen credential does not turn into a breach. Its data sheets say the company is backed by private equity firms, Insight Partners among them.

Every Keeper product rests on the same two ideas. Zero trust: every user and device is checked before it gets access. Zero knowledge: data is encrypted and decrypted on your own devices, and the keys stay there, so Keeper says nobody outside your organization, its own staff included, can read what is in a vault. On that base it sells a password and passkey vault for every employee, browser-based remote access into servers, a secrets manager for developers, and a privileged access line that puts all of it under one console.

Best for

  • Organizations that want a password manager for every employee, with policies and reporting run from one admin console.
  • IT and DevOps teams that want remote access into servers, databases and Kubernetes through a browser with nothing installed on the user's machine.
  • Development teams removing hard-coded secrets from code, configuration files and build pipelines.
  • Enterprises with single sign-on that still have applications outside it and password habits it does not fix.
  • Government and public-sector bodies that need a FedRAMP-authorized option.

What they offer

Managed Security. The vault stores and fills logins, generates passwords, and holds files across unlimited devices. Keeper Connection Manager opens remote sessions to servers, databases and Kubernetes from a web browser, over RDP or SSH, and records them for audit. Keeper Secrets Manager pulls credentials out of code and pipelines, with hooks for GitHub Actions, Jenkins and Ansible, developer kits, and dark web monitoring of exposed credentials through BreachWatch. KeeperPAM bundles privileged account and session management, secrets, single sign-on integration and password management, with more than 50 integrations. Keeper SSO Connect adds the vault to an existing single sign-on through SAML 2.0, with identity providers including Okta, OneLogin, Ping Identity, Google Workspace, JumpCloud and Microsoft Azure AD. Keeper Security Government Cloud is the FedRAMP-authorized version for public-sector buyers.

Proof

  • Keeper states it is SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certified, and that its Government Cloud is FedRAMP authorized, hosted in AWS GovCloud, with a FIPS 140-2 mark on its brief.
  • It says it is listed for United States federal purchase through the System for Award Management.
  • It has been named PC Magazine's Best Password Manager of the Year and an Editors' Choice, a PCWorld Editors' Choice, and a winner of G2 Best Software awards.
  • It says millions of people and thousands of businesses use its software, and that average training time is under two hours.

These are Keeper's own statements. Its customer stories all name the customer, so none is used here.

Good to know

  • Connection Manager's sheets name RDP, SSH, VNC, Kubernetes and MySQL as endpoint types. Check yours against that list before assuming coverage.
  • Secrets Manager names GitHub Actions, Jenkins and Ansible as its built-in pipeline hooks, with software kits for common languages beyond those.
  • Keeper hosts SSO Connect itself, so there is no server for you to run. Approving a new device can be manual, by an administrator, or automatic, depending on how you configure it.
  • The zero trust brief cites a federal deadline at the end of fiscal 2024 that has since passed. The documents here date from 2021 to 2024.
  • This is software you run, not a managed service. Ask who administers the console and responds to alerts once it is deployed.

How buying works

The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.

Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.

  1. 01

    Build your quote list

Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.

  2. 02

    We bring back real options

A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.

  3. 03

We handle the order and install

Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.

  4. 04

    We stay on your account

Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
