Ooma is a publicly traded cloud communications company that runs its own phone platform and a managed cellular network for replacing copper lines. Founded in 2004 in Sunnyvale, California, it trades on the New York Stock Exchange and states more than 2 million total users. Ooma Enterprise is its cloud phone platform for larger organizations, deployed through an eight-step discovery and planning process, with a call center layer and direct routing for Microsoft Teams; Ooma Office serves small businesses. AirDial replaces the analog lines that fire alarm panels, elevators and entry systems still depend on, over a managed cellular network with agreements across four carriers. Around them sit wireless internet and SIP trunking. It serves the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. For a buyer, Ooma is one company for phones, copper-line replacement and the wireless link under a small site.
Best for
- Facilities still relying on analog lines for fire alarm panels, elevator phones, security systems or fax machines that face rising line costs or a carrier shutdown notice, especially across many sites that want one dashboard for every device.
- Hotels that want cloud phones, guest services tied into the property management system, copper-line replacement and connectivity from one vendor.
- Microsoft Teams shops that need real calling inside Teams with ring groups, a virtual receptionist and advanced call flows that Teams lacks on its own.
A company that needs only a few desk phones, with no line-safety obligation and no multi-site footprint, may find Ooma Enterprise's planning-led process heavier than its needs.
What they offer
Cloud Phone Systems. Ooma Enterprise is a cloud PBX and unified communications platform that can move a company fully to the cloud or run as a hybrid that keeps existing phone equipment. It covers ring groups, a virtual receptionist, advanced call flows and recording, video meetings and chat, an admin portal with number porting, and desktop and mobile apps with hot desking, with unlimited calling in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams connects Teams to the public phone network so calls are made, taken and transferred inside Teams, with automatic redirection to mobile numbers if Teams or the internet goes down; Ooma states 99.999 percent availability for it. Ooma Office is the small-business service, and a hospitality package bundles the cloud PBX, copper-line replacement, SIP trunking and guest messaging with more than 70 property management systems.
Contact Center. Ooma Enterprise Call Center adds queue-based routing and reporting to the phone platform: skills-based, round-robin and longest-idle queues, time-of-day routing, callbacks, a graphical call-flow builder, and real-time and historical dashboards.
Business Connectivity. Ooma Connect is wireless business internet over LTE and 5G. Its Connect 3000 gateway carries an LTE-Advanced modem, four Ethernet ports and built-in dual-band Wi-Fi, and it is portable: unplug it and power it up at a pop-up store, a new branch or a field event.
Voice and SIP Trunking. SIP trunking that brings inbound, outbound, local and long-distance calling to an existing on-premises PBX without replacing it. Ooma says it contracts directly with carriers as an incumbent local exchange carrier rather than reselling another carrier's service, and the service includes automatic failover.
Copper line replacement. AirDial replaces analog POTS lines with a device holding four analog ports. Its MultiPath transport sends every packet over an LTE link and a wired Ethernet link at the same time, so a call stays up if one path fails, and the cellular side runs on managed facilities-based voice network agreements with T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and UScellular. The 2025 datasheet lists 16 hours of standby battery, extendable past 24 hours with an accessory. A web portal called Remote Device Manager monitors every unit, with text and email alerts for outages and battery. AirDial installs at the telephone demarcation point, so the fire panel and the monitoring receiver stay as they are, and weatherproof enclosures cover outdoor sites.

Proof
Customer stories Ooma has published, told here without the customer's name.
A hotel operator with ten historic properties across three states and roots 164 years back. Rising costs and unexplained outages on the analog lines serving its fire alarm panels and pool-safety phones sent it looking for a replacement that would not mean ripping out phones that suited each property's character. It deployed AirDial across fire panels, pool phones and fax lines, installed without issues, and now watches every location from one dashboard.
A property firm described as Florida's largest office landlord, with a 1.7 million square foot flagship campus. The analog lines serving the campus's elevators were growing costlier and less reliable, and planned construction threatened the room where they terminated. It deployed 14 AirDial units for 17 elevators, finished on schedule, and expects to add more as the property grows.
A family-owned mortgage brokerage that owns its three-story downtown office building. Its fire panel, elevator phone and glass-break alarm ran on analog lines whose rate had risen sharply, and the incumbent's replacement failed after months. AirDial went in quickly and found two lines no longer needed.
Ooma's whitepapers state that AirDial's batteries comply with UN 38.3 and UL 2054 and that the device conforms to UL 62368-1. Its 2025 overview states FDNY and CAL Fire approval. These claims are Ooma's own.
Good to know
- AirDial depends on cellular coverage at each address from the four carriers above, so confirm signal where the lines actually run before you commit.
- Each AirDial port serves one device. Equipment that has to share a line needs separate line-seizure hardware inspected by the local authority, and Ooma says AirDial is not a party line.
- The documents disagree with themselves on two points. A 2023 whitepaper gives the AirDial battery as more than eight hours, the 2025 datasheet says 16 hours of standby; and approval language ranges from "approved" to "built with guidelines in mind." Ask for the current spec sheet and the certificate your own inspector will accept.
- Figures here are the company's own, from 2023 to 2025 material; seven of the 24 documents for this supplier were held back by the content screen.

How buying works
The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.
Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.
- 01
Build your quote list
Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.
- 02
We bring back real options
A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.
- 03
We handle the order and install
Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.
- 04
We stay on your account
Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
