Wireless Watchdogs is a managed mobility company that runs the full lifecycle of a fleet of company phones and tablets, from purchase to retirement. It takes the job of managing mobile devices off an IT team: sourcing and configuring the devices, securing them, supporting the people who carry them, and watching the wireless bills. Two threads run through the work. One is control and security, knowing where every device is and being able to lock or wipe it. The other is cost, trimming the wireless spend through rate-plan analysis, cutting unused lines and catching overages. Wireless Watchdogs was launched in 2001 and is based in Inglewood, California. For a buyer, it is a way to hand off a growing pile of phones without hiring staff to manage them.

Best for

  • Companies whose device count and wireless bills are growing faster than the IT team that has to manage them.
  • Organizations with field or remote staff that need phones tracked, secured and supported wherever the workers are.
  • Businesses in regulated fields that must lock down, wipe or prove control over the devices their people carry.
  • Companies whose IT team is spending too much time on carrier bills, rate plans and lost-phone tickets instead of core work.

A company with only a handful of phones and no compliance pressure can manage them in-house. Wireless Watchdogs pays off once the fleet is large enough that managing it becomes its own job.

What they offer

Managed Mobility. The service covers the whole device lifecycle: procurement and kitting, mobile device management to configure and control phones, and device security through tracking, remote lock and wipe, and detection of jailbreaking or excessive login attempts. It extends the same management to PCs, and runs a mobile device recovery program plus a help desk with business-hours admin support and after-hours help for lost or stolen devices.

Telecom Expense Management. Wireless expense management analyzes and optimizes rate plans, finds and cuts unused lines, consolidates invoices and prevents overages, with reporting that breaks device usage down by summary, organization and financial account.

Proof

These stories come from Wireless Watchdogs' own published, anonymized case studies.

A global insurance and reinsurance company with 15 North American offices and about 1,000 devices. New FINRA compliance rules meant it had to upgrade every smartphone and install mobile device management on each one. Done in-house, the swap would have left each user without a phone for at least a day and taken IT more than six months. Wireless Watchdogs coordinated people across the field locations to swap the phones in person, which the case study reports completed the refresh and made every device compliant in less than 30 days, with no meaningful downtime.

A state health-and-human-services agency. It ran more than 6,000 mobile devices across 140 accounts and three carriers, managed by 145 people spread across its divisions. Wireless Watchdogs consolidated those 140 accounts into three, took over wireless expense management, and gave the agency a portal to order and control approved devices, offsetting work for its IT and accounts-payable teams.

A Fortune 1000 specialty construction company with 18 locations and about 6,600 devices across three carriers. Its previous telecom-expense provider could not keep up with rising mobility costs. Wireless Watchdogs ran a billing analysis, consolidated the environment, and gave the company visibility and control that lowered its cost per line.

Good to know

  • Wireless Watchdogs manages the carriers' service and devices; it is not a carrier itself. It works across the major wireless networks on your behalf.
  • Much of the value is in the ongoing expense management, which depends on the company seeing your full inventory and bills. Ask what visibility it needs to deliver the savings it describes.
  • Product names and figures here are the company's own material.

How buying works

The store is the easy part. Staying on the account is the job.

Anyone can show you logos. The reason to buy here is what happens on install night, and on the ticket you open nine months later.

  1. 01

    Build your quote list

Add services and companies as you shop. No form stands between you and the shelf.

  2. 02

    We bring back real options

A person shops the bench against your addresses, then walks you through what fits and what does not.

  3. 03

We handle the order and install

Paperwork, site survey, install dates, cutover night. You get one thread, not five vendors.

  4. 04

    We stay on your account

Same team for moves, adds, tickets and the next renewal. That is the part everyone else drops.
